    Coach Michael Smith is the Owner and Founder of the Central Union Baseball organization. Coach Smith has joined CPI as a Partner, General Manager of Baseball and Softball Operations and the Director of Teams. We are excited to have Coach Smith and his rebranded travel teams, the CPI Cubs. He joins CPI with not only his extensive background coaching baseball but his passion and dedication to mentor young athletes. 

    As a Cranford High School graduate, Coach Smith excelled in baseball, basketball, and soccer. Making the varsity teams for all three from 2013 to 2016. What Coach Smith takes away most from being a Cranford athlete is, “I developed a deep understanding of competition, hard work and teamwork throughout my high school career.”

    Mike has been deeply involved in coaching Cranford Baseball since 2018, serving as the Middle School head coach until 2022 and as the Cranford High School Freshman head coach in 2023 and 2024. His coaching philosophy focuses on fostering both individual development and team unity, helping players achieve their potential on and off the field.

    Today, Coach Smith is an assistant coach for the Cranford High School Varsity Baseball program under Head Coach Ryan Matlosz.

  • Director of Business Development 

    Rob Chamra is a lifelong Cranford Cougar, graduating in 2006. As a senior, he posted a 5–2 record with a 1.86 ERA and 52 strikeouts. He earned second-team all-conference, third-team all-county, and third-team All-North Jersey Group II honors while leading his team to both conference and sectional championships. In addition to baseball, Chamra also lettered in basketball, football, and track.

    Chamra went on to play collegiate baseball at NC State University from 2009 to 2011, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management. During the summer of 2010, he competed in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League with the Falmouth Commodores. In 2011, he ranked in the top 10 for wins in the ACC.

    That same year, Chamra was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the MLB Draft. He helped lead the AZL Dodgers to a 2011 Arizona League Rookie Championship, compiling a 3–0 record with a 3.92 ERA.

    Following his professional career, Chamra transitioned into coaching and has been a part of the Cranford High School baseball program since 2014. In 2016, he joined Head Coach Dennis McCaffery’s varsity staff, focusing on pitchers and corner infielders. From 2016 to 2024, the Cougar pitching staff posted an impressive 2.64 ERA. Chamra credits Coach Ryan Matlosz for his expertise in in-game pitch calling, along with the dedication and hard work of the players.

    As a mentor to standout Cranford alumni such as Gordon Graceffo, Shane Van Dam, Sean Woodruff, Will Gallagher, and Kevin Donovan, Chamra brings a player development-first approach and a professional mindset that inspires athletes.

    Now an MLB Certified Player Agent, Chamra continues to expand his baseball expertise. He is highly proficient with Trackman Baseball technology and analytics, and currently serves as CPI’s Director of Player Development and Business Development.
